Heating Repair Questions

My furnace isn’t working, is it broken?

There are a few things to check when you see that your furnace isn’t functioning.

First, check your circuit breaker to ensure that there is power going to the unit.

Second, check the furnace filter and see if it’s clogged and needs to be replaced.

Third, make sure your thermostat is set to “heat”.

How often should I change my filters?

This can differ based on usage of your system. Check your filters every two months and replace the filter as needed.

What can I do to help maintain my furnace?

The most important thing you can do is continue to have your furnace maintenance performed by a professional at least once a year. In between maintenance checks, always check and replace your filter as needed.  Another important task is to go through your home and check the air supply and return vents to ensure they are clean, clear and clutter free.

What should I do if cold air is coming from my furnace?

The first thing to do is check your thermostat and make sure your furnace is set to ‘Auto’ instead of ‘On.’ When your furnace is set to ‘On,’ the blower will constantly run even when your furnace isn’t heating the air. This will lead to colder air blowing through your furnace.  If that does not fix the problem, check your air filter. A dirty furnace air filter can cause your furnace to overheat which can lead to cold air coming through your vents. Replace the filter if it’s dirty and see if your furnace starts blowing out warm air.  A third reason that can cause this is if your pilot light is out. If none of these fix the problem, call an experienced professional at Sun Air Conditioning today.
